After Surgery Instructions
A clean and healthy mouth aids healing, so carefully brush around the other teeth but try to keep away from the wound.
The following steps will help prevent bleeding and relieve soreness:
AVOID: Strenuous exercise – rest for a few hours following treatment. Alcohol and smoking. Poking with fingers or tongue. It may be rough to the tongue. That’s not abnormal.
RINSING: Do not rinse for at least 6 hours. For several days following treatment rinse your mouth gently after meals and before retiring using a mouthwash made by dissolving 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water. Hold the solution in your mouth for several minutes, spit and repeat 2-3 times.
FOOD: Avoid hot fluids, alcohol, smoking, hard or chewy foods. Choose cool drinks and soft or minced foods. Avoid sucking at, or interfering with, the wound. Try and avoid the area.
BLEEDING: Should slight bleeding occur sit upright with head and shoulders raised. Apply pressure using a small pad of gauze or clean linen clamped firmly between the jaws for 15 minutes – repeat if necessary.
PAIN: If painful, take ibuprofen x3 daily or paracetamol x4 daily as you might for a headache. Do not use if allergic or sensitive.
If excessive bleeding, undue pain or other symptoms occur contact your Dentist or Dental Out of Hours for advice without delay.
Missed Appointment Policy
Missed or broken appointments are the single biggest cause of extended waiting times and make it harder for us to provide care for those who need it, when they need it. It also makes it more difficult for the practice to invest in its facilities, services and staff.
The quicker a dental problem, like tooth decay, is dealt with, the better the outcome of the treatment is likely to be.
In order to lessen the number of broken appointments, we will remind you.
Your mobile phone number and email address help us do this efficiently and conveniently.
We reserve the right to enforce a Broken Appointment Fee system, where a fee will be levied for any appointment that is missed or cancelled with less than 24hrs notice.
The fee will be based on an hourly rate of £30 per hour, thereby, a 10 minute appointment will be charged at £5, a 20 minute at £10 and so on. There will be a maximum single charge of £30.
Continued failure to attend appointments will result in deregistration from this practice.
Following failure to attend an appointment we will try to inform you.
This will hopefully act as an incentive to patients to keep their appointments or cancel them in good time.
This policy relates to all patients of this practice including children and those exempt from paying NHS fees.
We are proud to offer a 5 year guarantee on our private fillings, root-canal treatment, crown and bridge treatment*.
*Subject to 6 monthly checkups. If a crowned tooth subsequently needs root canal despite our efforts, a root-canal fee will apply but the crown will be replaced without charge.
